Quote by Winston Churchill on free enterprise

A quote by Winston Churchill on free enterprise is the topic of this blog post.

“Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow they can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon.” Winston Churchill

“This excellent quote by Winston Churchill is undeniably true.  I would have used the term free enterprise as most people are more familiar with that term.  Extreme leftists are generally the ones who regard private enterprise (private business) as a predatory tiger to be shot. The more moderate ones simply look on it as a cow they can milk.  However to be honest I have to include Wall Street in the category that looks on it as a cow they can milk, at least as long as they can get someone else to pay for the milk. The free enterprise system can work wonders if allowed to perform its intended purpose which as Winston Churchill astutely pointed out is to act as a healthy horse pulling a sturdy wagon. In other words free enterprise should not be discouraged and looked on as something to be destroyed, nor should it be looked on as something to be milked but an essential component of a truly remarkable economic system. Unfortunately the current economic system in the United States is no longer free enterprise but mainly managed competition and crony capitalism of the worst kind particularly when it comes to Wall Street.” Stan Burman
